Week of Civic Leadership Schedule

There's no single path to civic leadership. Â鶹Æƽâ°æ is celebrating a new semester in the Year of Civic Leadership with a week of concentrated, and varied, opportunities to engage in civic service, learning and engagement. There are opportunities for everyone — including loved ones visiting students on Family Weekend.

Saturday, September 12, 2026

: Join Civic & Community Engagement in a one-time service project to volunteer in our broader community and reflect on this national day of service. Transportation and coordination provided. Projects are posted as they become available, often in the three weeks leading up to the day of service. 

Monday, September 14, 2026

: Â鶹Æƽâ°æ the Civic & Community engagement team on Monday, September 14 from 12 - 2 p.m. on the Sadler Center Terrace. Add to civic coloring posters and celebrate our shared public life. What are the relationships, experiences, actions, legacies, and dreams for our shared future that make you excited about civic leadership?

Tuesday, September 15, 2026

: Â鶹Æƽâ°æ the National Voter Registration Day Info Station on Tuesday, September 15, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Sadler Center and Miller Hall.  Connect with W&M's Voter Engagement Committee, the City Williamsburg Voter Registrar and local chapter of the League of Women Voters for snacks and questions. 

: Participate in student government and learn what civic engagement looks like on the university level. Student Assembly Senate will meet on Tuesday, September 15 from 7 - 9 p.m. in Chesapeake at the Sadler Center. Free pizza for in-person attendees. 

Wednesday, September 16, 2026

: Register in advance to attend a live recording of the acclaimed — hosted by NPR Morning Edition host David Greene — on September 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Phi Beta Kappa Memorial Hall. Greene will be joined at Â鶹Æƽâ°æ by regular contributors Mo Elleithee, executive director of Georgetown University’s Institute of Politics and Public Service, and Mike Dubke, for a timely conversation about politics, public life and the value of engaging across ideological divides. 

Thursday, September 17, 2026

: Celebrate Constitution Day by taking pen to paper and handwriting this American founding document. Stop by a writing session from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on Sadler Terrace to receive a free copy of the Constitution and transcribe as much of the Constitution as you'd like. Snacks provided. There will also be a session in Swem from 1-3 p.m.

Friday, September 18, 2026

: Want to experience a day in the life of a W&M student? Attend a class on Friday, September 18. No registration required. A list of open classes will be published one week before Family Weekend on the Family Weekend website.

Saturday, September 19, 2026

: Â鶹Æƽâ°æ the Sadler Center Terrace from 12 - 2 p.m. to view a showcase of student clubs that are committed to civic action and advocacy.  Come visit, learn, and engage in civic action through the lenses of a wide range of our Â鶹Æƽâ°æ student organizations.  

Family Weekend Featured Lectures: W&M families are invited to one-hour presentations in the Sadler Center's Commonwealth Auditorium throughout Saturday. Lectures are centered around W&M's Year of Civic Leadership from nationally recognized faculty and staff and included on the Family Weekend Schedule.
