Democracy Scholars
Program Purpose & Goals
The Democracy Scholars program brings together first-year students from across the arts, humanities, social sciences, and STEM to explore what it means to be an active citizen in a democratic society.
Student Experience
Democracy Scholars live together in Cedar Hall and participate in yearlong special programming, including dialogues with visiting speakers, collaborative student projects, and social and mentorship activities.
Learning Outcomes
Through shared residential and classroom experiences, students explore how democratic ideals and practices connect to everyday life. The program fosters open, thoughtful communication and collaborative inquiry, offering opportunities for dialogue with invited guests and peers as a microcosm of the public sphere.
Applications for the inaugural (2026-2027) Democracy Scholars cohort are now closed.
