Power BI

Power BI is a data visualization tool that enables users to easily transform data into live dashboards and reports. Users can create insights from an Excel spreadsheet or a local dataset and then collaborate and share those insights with others. Power BI also offers extensive modeling, real-time analytics, and custom visualizations.  

Notes about Power BI at Âé¶¹ÆÆ½â°æ:

  • Âé¶¹ÆÆ½â°æ faculty and staff have access to Power BI pro.
  • To protect W&M data records, no connections to W&M data sources, such as Banner, will be allowed.

Get Set-Up

Online Access to Power BI

You can access Power BI by going to and clicking on the Power BI tile.

Computer Client Installation

  • Go to 
  • Click on the Power BI tile
  • Click on the download arrow on the top-right corner of the page
  • Select Power BI Desktop  
  • Follow the installation prompts

Microsoft Video Training 

Select videos related to specific Power BI topics on the webpage.

LinkedIn Learning Video Training

LinkedIn Learning offers various high-quality video training sessions on the Office 365 Web Apps. You can go through cornerstone.wm.edu to access the videos, and it will be listed on your W&M training transcript. 

Faculty/Staff Instructions:

  • Sign into Cornerstone at cornerstone.wm.edu
  • Select Browse for Training
  • In the Search bar, search for PowerBI
  • Select the appropriate training class

Student Instructions

  • Âé¶¹ÆÆ½â°æ W&M Libraries () and sign in with your student ID
  • In the Search bar, search for PowerBI
  • Select the appropriate training class
