Â鶹Æƽâ°æ

GRI has spent 20 years supporting applied research. In 2026, we’re excited to expand that mission, launching a new research incubator that facilitates collaborative research at every stage—from good ideas to sustainable research enterprises. This new model supports research with the potential for real-world impact in Virginia, the United States, and the wider world, touching topics from across departments and schools at Â鶹Æƽâ°æ.

Current Projects for the 2026-2027 Academic Year

Our Model

GRI’s four-tiered system of incubation does the following:

1. Engage: Make available training and resources to all W&M faculty as part of GRI’s ongoing programming.
2. Explore: Catalyze emerging research ideas and/or show proof-of-concept.
3. Accelerate: Support and invest in high-potential projects.
4. Sustain: Ensure continued external funding and a successful transition to permanent homes across Â鶹Æƽâ°æ.

To support these goals, every year GRI opens funding opportunities for researchers, backed by the significant administrative support of GRI’s staff. Applications for the 2027-2028 academic year are now open.
