Email: [[ksmcquillan]]

As a member of the Research Initiatives Team, Kyle leads GRI’s “Engage” portfolio to provide structured skill building opportunities to build capacity for applied, interdisciplinary research initiatives across campus to support the acceleration of research from ideas to impact. She also supports Seed and Pathfinder groups in the “Explore” portfolio.

Kyle graduated from Â鶹Æƽâ°æ with a B.A. in Hispanic Studies in 2017 and earned her Ph.D. in Romance Studies in Literatures, Languages, and Cultures of the Iberian Peninsula and the Americas in 2025 at UNC Chapel Hill where she is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Health Behavior at the Gillings School of Global Public Health and a Professor of Practice in Public Policy.

In her research, she explores the intersections of human-centered design, pedagogy and technology to make literature a more accessible and equitable tool in and out of the classroom. In her design practice, she leverages methods in human-centered design, qualitative research and improvement science to develop and implement solutions to complex, cross-sector design challenges. When she isn't reading for work, Kyle likes to read for fun, paddleboard on the James, and cook.
