D.C. Winter Seminars are open to current seniors, juniors, sophomores, eligible freshmen, December graduates, and graduate students in all majors and disciplines!

First year, first time in college students may only apply if they are not in an academic overload (must be taking 18 hours or less including potential 3 credit D.C. Winter Seminars class).

Students on academic probation during the time they are abroad are not eligible to participate in Study in D.C. opportunities. If you are on academic probation or on a medical withdrawal or underload, you must receive approval from the Office of Academic Wellbeing in order to participate in Study in D.C. opportunities.

Students who are on Disciplinary Probation or Deferred Suspension status are ineligible to participate in Study in D.C. opportunities during their first full semester in such status. If a sanction endures beyond one full semester (15 academic weeks), the student may petition the Office of Student Accountability & Restorative Practices for an exception. The Director, or designee, will make the final decision in consultation with Washington Center staff, and that decision will be final and cannot be appealed.

If you do not get approval, you may NOT participate in Study in D.C. opportunities. Students are required to report to the Washington Center any changes in academic or judicial status, even after acceptance into a program, which may affect their eligibility to participate in their accepted program, even if such a change results in a financial loss.

• A non-refundable $500 deposit is due October 1, 2026. The remaining balance due will be billed on your November W&M Student Accounts eStatement and is due December 1, 2026.*
• If you choose to live in housing provided by the W&M Washington Center, there is an additional non-refundable cost of $950** for a double room or $1,900** for a single room billed on your November W&M Student Accounts eStatement and due on December 1, 2026.

*PLEASE NOTE: Students who wish to drop the class have until the drop deadline on 01/01/2027 at midnight to do so. If students drop by this deadline, the course fee will be removed, but students will forfeit their previously paid $500 deposit. Students who drop after the 01/01/2027 at midnight deadline will still be responsible for all class fees. No refunds will be provided, no charges removed after 01/01/2027 at midnight.

What Your Program Fees Will Cover
In addition to the academic credit you’ll receive from Â鶹Æƽâ°æ for completing the D.C. Winter Seminars, your fees cover:

• Faculty and staff salaries
• Program meals during orientation session
• A networking luncheon/dinner with D.C.-area alumni

Dropping/Withdrawing from Your Seminar
Your $500 deposit is completely non-refundable at any time. Housing fees are non-refundable at any time.

Students who wish to drop the class have until the drop deadline on 01/01/2027 at midnight to do so. If students drop by this deadline, the course fee will be removed, but students will forfeit their previously paid $500 deposit.

Students who drop after the 01/01/2027 at midnight deadline will still be responsible for all class fees. No refunds will be provided after 01/01/2027 at midnight.

In order to drop your D.C. Winter Seminars course, you will need to send an email from your W&M account to registrar@wm.edu, CCing Program Coordinator, Catherine Stapleton, by 01/01/2027 at midnight. No other communication will be considered a formal drop request.

Students who want to withdraw from the course will be handled on a case by case basis. In order to withdraw your D.C. Winter Seminars course, you will need to send an email from your W&M account to registrar@wm.edu, CCing Program Coordinator, Catherine Stapleton. No other communication will be considered a formal withdraw request.
