A message to families & friends

Full Description

Dear Families & Friends,

Over the past few weeks, many of you have likely seen national news coverage of a sexual assault case at Cornell University. Stories like this can be hard to read, especially when you have a student of your own away at college. If it has stirred up worry or questions for you, those feelings are completely understandable.

Sending a student to college is an act of love and trust, and we take that trust seriously. Part of caring for our students is being honest that sexual and gender-based violence affects college campuses across the country, including ours. We share this not to alarm you, but because we believe students do best when they, and the people who love them, know that help is close by and that no one must face a hard experience alone.

That's why The Haven exists. The Haven is a confidential, welcoming space where students can talk with a trained peer advocate or a member of our professional staff. They can come in whether something happened recently, long ago, or to a friend they're worried about. They don't need to have the right words or know what they want to do next; we're here to listen, explain options, and support whatever path they choose toward healing. Students can drop in at the Sadler Center, Suite 146P, seven days a week, or schedule an appointment in person, by phone, or virtually.

Moments like this one can also open the door to meaningful conversations at home. One of the most powerful things you can do is simply let your student know The Haven is here. A short conversation, or a "just in case, here's a place you can go," can make it easier for them to reach out if they or a friend ever need it. Thank you for partnering with us in caring for your student. Together, we can help make Â鶹Æƽâ°æ a place where every student feels safe, respected, and supported.
