Employee Spotlight
This month, we’re proud to recognize Will Chretien, Grounds Worker, for his initiative, growth, and commitment to supporting the Gardens & Grounds team.
Over the past couple of years, with the Nursery Lead Worker position vacant, Will stepped up without hesitation to take on many of those responsibilities. He recognized a need within the department and filled the gap without being asked — a true example of teamwork and ownership. His contributions have supported a number of important efforts, including successful crop grow-ins, enhancements to Yule Log ceremony preparations, rental event setups, and ongoing garden maintenance across campus.
Along the way, Will has expanded his knowledge well beyond his original role. He has developed skills in crop identification, greenhouse and lot growing techniques, fertilization practices, and observational crop monitoring — all critical components of maintaining the high standards of Â鶹Æƽâ°æ’s grounds. Demonstrating his commitment to continuous learning, Will recently completed the Greenhouse & Nursery Management Short Course through Hort Americas, earning a certificate of completion. He also completed a Biological Pest Management seminar, further strengthening his preparedness for the spring growing season.
Will’s growth has not been limited to technical skills. He has also taken on a temporary supervisory role, helping to lead and coordinate Grounds student workers with varying schedules, experience levels, and skill sets. These student workers play an important role in maintaining campus grounds, and Will’s leadership has been key in making that program successful.
In addition, Will has represented the department in community engagement efforts, including leading nursery tours and hands-on planting activities. Most recently, he worked with a K-12 homeschool group, guiding a planting project in the President’s Garden — an experience that reflects both his knowledge and his ability to connect with others.
Will continues to demonstrate a strong work ethic, initiative, and a desire to grow within his career. His contributions have made a meaningful impact on the Gardens & Grounds team and the campus as a whole.
Thank you, Will, for your dedication and the pride you bring to your work.
