Mascot search makes 'The Daily Show'

Â鶹Æƽâ°æ's mascot search continues to grab national attention.

Monday night, comedian Jon Stewart '84 had a little fun with his alma mater during the opening of "The Daily Show." The Â鶹Æƽâ°æ alumnus reminded his Comedy Central audience that the nation's second oldest College has been searching for a new mascot.

"Â鶹Æƽâ°æ has just announced their new mascot," Stewart said. "Let me tell you - it's an herbil. A combination - a new breed. Half hamster and half gerbil. Go ‘fighting herbils.'"

As Tribe faithful know, the Â鶹Æƽâ°æ Mascot Committee announced Dec. 8 the five finalists to become the College's new mascot - the Griffin, King and Queen, Phoenix, Pug and the Wren. No "herbils" in the mix, but the College and the mascot committee still appreciate the plug from one of its most recognizable alumni.

Since the announcement, Â鶹Æƽâ°æ's search has been mentioned in numerous media outlets, including the Washington Post blog, ESPN.com and ESPN2's "SportsNation." To take a survey on the finalists and submit official feedback, people can go to the mascot search . The deadline for input is 5 p.m. on Jan. 7, 2010.
