W&M Mobile Privacy & Security
Purpose
The following describes how information is accessed, processed and protected in connection with the W&M Mobile application (“app”). The app provides a secure mobile interface to official university systems and information.
This privacy and security information applies specifically to W&M Mobile and describes the handling of information accessed or processed through the app. It does not replace or supersede the university's general website privacy statement or other applicable university data governance policies.
Privacy
W&M Mobile does not independently retain or share user data. The app functions as a secure access mechanism to official university systems and information. Institutional data accessed through the app remains within the university's authoritative systems of record.
Following secure authentication using W&M credentials, the app may display information maintained within official university systems, including Banner and other authorized platforms. The app does not permanently store institutional records or user data on mobile devices.
The university does not share personal or institutional data accessed through the app except as necessary to provide authorized functionality or as otherwise required by law.
Security
The university implements administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect information accessed through W&M Mobile. These safeguards include encrypted data transmission, secure authentication mechanisms and role-based access controls.
Data Access and Deletion
W&M Mobile does not independently retain user data or institutional records; therefore, there is no mechanism within the app to request deletion of such information.
Requests regarding access to or correction of institutional records should be submitted through the university's applicable official processes.
Device Permissions
W&M Mobile may request limited device permissions necessary to provide specific functionality, such as notifications for university alerts and communications. Permissions are used for authorized institutional purposes and may be managed by users through their device settings.
Analytics
W&M Mobile uses Modo Analyze to collect limited, non-personally identifiable usage information for operational purposes. This information helps the university understand overall app usage, monitor performance and reliability, and improve the app's functionality and user experience.
Third-Party Service Providers
W&M Mobile is developed and supported using the Modo Labs mobile platform. Modo Labs and other authorized service providers act as contracted service providers to the university and process information only as necessary to provide, maintain and support authorized app functionality.
Updates to This Information
W&M reserves the right to update this privacy and security information to reflect changes in legal requirements, technology or operational practices.
