Background

cfrancis [She/Her] is director, intimacy choreographer, applied theatre specialist, teacher, playwright, and actor.

Her directing practice evolved concurrent with her playwriting and new play dramaturgy training at the University of Texas-Austin’s MFA playwriting program and subsequently was influenced by both. She has directed classic American dramas including 12 Angry Jurors and Our Town, as well as devised site-specific works and interactive performance for community engagement.

cfrancis studied applied theatre at the University of Missouri and is the founder of Theatre in Action, an interactive theatre troupe, specializing in Forum theatre performances. She has worked as an intimacy choreographer on several productions and previously served as the intimacy specialist for Bucknell University’s Department of Theatre and Dance.

Her acting credits include performances at PS 122, The Kitchen, LaMAMA ETC, Theatre for the New City and Brooklyn Arts Council (BACA), originating the roles of Christophene in Mi No Choose None, Julia in King of Infinite Space, and Clown in Kisala. cfrancis is a member of SAG-AFTRA.

Along with her MFA in playwriting from the University of Texas-Austin, cfrancis holds an MA in English with a concentration in African Diaspora Studies, and a PhD in theatre from the University of Missouri.She has taught a variety of theatre history/analysis and performance courses at Miami University, Ohio, University of Miami, Florida, and Bucknell University, Pennsylvania, before joining the Department of Theatre and Performance at The College of William and Mary.
