Janelle S. Ings is a dance educator, choreographer, curriculum developer, and arts leader who has more than two decades of experience spanning K–12, collegiate, and graduate education. A native of New York City, she attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. She trained at The Ailey School from childhood through its Professional Division, where she has performed in numerous Ailey Gala performances.  Janelle danced professionally in various companies in the New York Tri-State area. She holds a BFA in Dance from Montclair State University and an MPA in Arts Administration from Seton Hall University. Currently, she teaches at  The Governor’s School for the Arts in Norfolk, Virginia, The College of Â鶹Æƽâ°æ, and is the Administrative Director of AileyCamp Miami. She taught at Rutgers University, where she prepared future dance educators through coursework in pedagogy, curriculum design, and professional practice.

Before relocating to Virginia, Janelle spent nearly two decades with Newark Public Schools, where she served as an educator, instructional leader, curriculum writer, and advocate for arts education. A two-time Newark Public Schools Teacher of the Year and recipient of the Governor’s Teacher Recognition Award, she has co-authored district-wide dance curricula, mentored educators, and led initiatives that expand access to high-quality arts education. Her choreography has a rich foundation of modern, ballet, and African diasporic dance traditions and has been presented in regional and national high school dance festivals, professional companies, and educational settings. A former Board Trustee of Dance New Jersey and producer of the documentary Brick City Dance: A Renaissance Endeavor.
