Background

Professor Shirley Roby directed the Â鶹Æƽâ°æ Dance Program for 36 years, creating a legacy of care and celebration of our students.  From 1964-1965 Professor Roby led the Dance Program, and from 1965-2000, she co-led the program, including Orchesis dance compnay, with Professor Carol Wallace Sherman. Under their direction, the Dance Program  mentored students as they developed and presented original choreographic work. As the program grew. the annual faculty dance concert (DANCEVENT) was founded 1n 1977, the Dance Minor was established in 1982, and the Dance Minors Concert began in 1998.

Professor Roby is boh a choreographer and visual artist.  She blends her two modes of artistic expression by choreographing in relationship to projections of her paintings. Her support of the Dance Program is felt by students and faculty to this day.
