Academic Advising for Neuroscience Majors

Incoming Freshmen

If you are an incoming freshman, please indicate on your advising information form that you are thinking about becoming a Neuroscience major, and you will be matched up with a freshman advisor who knows the program.

Incoming Transfer Students

If you are an incoming transfer student and have decided on declaring a Neuroscience major, please contact the Director, Coordinator, or another Neuroscience advisor as soon as you matriculate to discuss your curriculum.

Current Students 


Please note that students declaring a NSCI major on or after August 10, 2026 are required to take

  • NSCI 305 Exploring Neuroscience: Molecules, Cells, and Synapses 
    (pre-req is BIOL 203 credit) in place of BIOL 345 Neurobiology and

  • NSCI 306 Exploring Neuroscience: Brain Systems & Behavior
    (pre-req is PSYC 201 credit)     in place of PSYC 313 Physiological Psychology.  

Students declaring a NSCI major before August 10, 2026 are required to take
either NSCI 305 or BIOL 345. These students are also required to take 
either NSCI 306 or PSYC 313.      

Please note that Fall 2025 is the last semester that MATH 106 Elementary Probability and Statistics is included in the Neuroscience curriculum.            

If you are a current student interested in declaring a Neuroscience major, choose an advisor appropriate to your academic interests and goals. To make your choice, contact an advisor directly from the list below, attend an NSCI informational session, or set up an appointment with Professor Porter, who can help you choose. 

Students should consult the Registrar's  for current Neuroscience major requirements.
