Biography

Cassie Machamer is a mezzo-soprano, educator, and music director based in Richmond, Virginia. Originally from the foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, she earned her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Virginia Commonwealth University and her Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Cassie has performed a wide range of repertoire spanning opera, contemporary vocal works, musical theatre, and concert literature. Operatic highlights include the roles of the Secretary in Gian Carlo Menotti’s The Consul and Mother Jeanne in Francis Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites. Performing throughout Central Virginia, she has appeared as an alto soloist in performances of Handel’s Messiah and Vivaldi’s Gloria. She currently serves as a staff singer at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Richmond.

Cassie’s research interests focus on women composers and underrepresented vocal repertoire. Her upcoming recital, A Woman’s Work, explores women’s labor and experiences through song, featuring works by composers including Virginia Gabriel and Juliana Hall.

Alongside her performance career, Cassie is passionate about helping singers develop a healthy, versatile technique that supports a variety of musical styles including classical, contemporary commercial music, and musical theater. She teaches voice at the University of Richmond, Virginia State University, and Brightpoint Community College, where she also serves as music director for the theater program. Her recent music directing credits include The Phantom Tollbooth, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Alice by Heart, Once on This Island, and Shrek, with Carrie scheduled for Spring 2027.
