Biography

India Calhoun is a singing voice specialist, music educator, and performing artist dedicated to helping students develop healthy, expressive, and sustainable voices. She holds a Master of Music in Contemporary Vocal Pedagogy from Shenandoah Conservatory and a Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music.

India specializes in Musical Theatre and Music of the African Diaspora, bringing a broad understanding of vocal traditions, stylistic authenticity, and performance practice to her teaching. She has worked with singers across a wide range of contemporary styles, including pop, rock, R&B, gospel, musical theatre, and singer-songwriter repertoire.

In addition to teaching at the collegiate level, India is the founder of SingSmart Studios, where she provides private instruction in voice, piano, musicianship, and artist development. Her experience spans private studios, community music programs, choir direction, and contemporary commercial music education.

India's teaching philosophy combines evidence-based vocal pedagogy with expressive freedom. She is committed to creating an inclusive, supportive learning environment where students build confidence alongside strong technical foundations. By emphasizing healthy vocal function, artistic expression, and stylistic versatility, she equips singers with the skills needed for long-term vocal health and meaningful artistic growth.
