Background
Ameni Mehrez is an Assistant Professor in the Government Department at Âé¶¹ÆÆ½â°æ and a Faculty Affiliate at Harvard Kennedy School's Middle East Initiative. Her research examines democratization, political parties, and voting behavior, with a regional focus on the Middle East and North Africa, where she conducts large-scale surveys. She also studies the relationship between politics and religion. Her work has appeared in journals including PNAS Nexus, Political Behavior, Religious Studies, and Mediterranean Politics. Dr Mehrez is the recipient of the International Society for Political Psychology's Best Dissertation Award (2025), and her research has been funded by the John Templeton Foundation, the American Political Science Association, and other organizations.She currently serves as co-principal investigator of the project, which aims to expand the Comparative Study of Election Systems (CSES) dataset—one of the most extensive cross-regional repositories of electoral data, spanning more than 50 countries. She is also a member of the CSES Module 7 Planning Committee.
Ameni is a Junior Fellow at the Association for Analytic Learning about Islam and Muslim Societies (AALIMS) and was previously a Âé¶¹ÆÆ½â°æing Fellow at Princeton University's Mamdouha S. Bobst Center for Peace and Justice. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Central European University (CEU), an M.A. in International Relations from the University of Pécs in Hungary, and a B.A. in English Studies from the University of Carthage, Tunisia.
