Bio

Tory Jeffay is an Assistant Professor of Film and Media Studies and English. Her current book project, Contested Vision: Race and the Limits of Visual Evidence is a critical history of how racialized modes of forensic seeing developed in the criminal justice system have shaped the way all photographs, films, and videos are understood as evidential. Her work has been published or is forthcoming in JCMS, Discourse, Film Quarterly, Feminist Media Histories, Afterimage, and The New Review of Film and Television Studies. Prior to William and Mary she was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Dartmouth Society of Fellows and a 2025 ACLS Fellow.
