Council of Arts & Sciences

The Council of Arts & Sciences is a broad group of alumni, parents, community members, and donors who provide counsel to the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. A philanthropic advisory board, the group considers ways to strengthen and expand the impact of Arts & Sciences, build community within Arts & Sciences stakeholders, expand the range of possibilities through consultation with accomplished individuals outside of the professional sphere of higher education, and provide support for programming and initiatives.

Members

	Laini Boyd '18 Richmond, VA Laini Boyd earned her B.A. in Government from �鶹�ƽ�� in 2018 and a Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. She currently manages external affairs for local Teach For America regions.
	Ann S. Brumbaugh ’92, P ’27 Atlanta, GA Anne Brumbaugh, who majored in English and history at �鶹�ƽ��, was a member of Kappa Delta sorority and the Debate Council. After W&M, Ann went on to earn a J.D. at the University of Michigan. She now practices as an attorney in the fields of education and election law at her own firm, The Law Office of Ann S. Brumbaugh, LLC. A third-generation �鶹�ƽ�� alumna, Ann is also a parent of a current W&M student.
	Bruce Christian '73 Lynchburg, VA Bruce Christian holds an undergraduate degree in Latin American Studies from �鶹�ƽ��, and a Master of Arts from Tulane University. He has served on the �鶹�ƽ�� Libraries Board, Foundation Board, National Campaign Committee, Campaign for �鶹�ƽ��, Strategic Planning Board, and the Alumni Association Board. He is Chairman Emeritus of N.B. Handy Co.
	Michael J. Clem '81 Libertytown, MD Mike Clem double-majored in history and government at �鶹�ƽ��. He served on For the Bold campaign's DC Metro Regional Campaign Committee. In 2006, after two decades spent as a journalist, ad copywriter, creative director, and direct mail fundraiser for nonprofits, Mike launched his own editorial services and public relations consulting business that continues today. He and his wife are the patrons of the university's Michael and Kathleen Clem History Writing Center.
	Jody Forsyth ‘22 (Honorary), P ’15 Calgary, AB Jody Forsyth currently serves as a director of the �鶹�ƽ�� Real Estate Foundation and is an adjunct professor at the W&M Law School. Jody also most recently served as a member of the �鶹�ƽ�� Foundation Board of Trustees and is a parent of a two-time W&M graduate. He earned a B.S. in mathematics, Diploma in Engineering., LL.B. and M.B.A., all from Dalhousie University, and completed an LL.M. at Osgoode Hall Law School. He currently is managing partner at Annapolis Capital.
	Eboni Frazier '17 Hopewell, VA Eboni Frazier double-majored in government and Africana studies at �鶹�ƽ��, graduating in 2017. During her time on campus, Eboni was actively involved with the WMSURE program and served as the Student Body President for the Student Assembly. After graduation, she dedicated seven years to public education as a math teacher and instructional coach. Eboni now serves as an Education Program Specialist for the U.S. Department of Education, continuing her commitment to improving educational outcomes for all students.
	Joe Gofus '18 (Honorary) Reston, VA Joe Gofus obtained a B.S. in Meteorology from Penn State University, and an M.S. in Computer Systems Applications from American University. Joe retired from the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration and the National Weather Service after a successful career in meteorology and computer systems.
	Carter Hudgins '84 Ph.D. Carter Hudgins earned his PhD in early American history and culture from �鶹�ƽ��. He completed a BA in sociology at the University of Richmond and an MA in history and historic preservation at Wake Forest University. Carter is Director Emeritus of the Clemson University’s Graduate Program in Historic Preservation. Prior to joining the Clemson faculty in 2011, Hudgins was Hofer Distinguished Professor of Early American Culture and Historic Preservation at the University of Mary Washington. He currently serves as a vice president and member of W&M’s Graduate Studies Advisory Board.
	Josiah Petersen '07 Josiah Petersen, MD, PhD, majored in Neuroscience at �鶹�ƽ�� before training as a physician-scientist at the University of Pennsylvania and completing his pediatrics residency at Seattle Children's Hospital. He served as a clinical attending at Mount Sinai Hospital before entering a career in clinical research, where he is now Medical Director at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, leading clinical development programs in allergy and immunology.
	Lisa Roday '23 (Honorary), P '13, '14, Chair Henrico, VA Lisa Roday holds an undergraduate degree in English from the State University of New York at Binghamton and J.D. from Brooklyn Law School and is an Honorary Alumna of W&M. Roday practiced as an attorney in New York City and is now the president of FireIce Solutions, VA. She is a former member of the Board of �鶹�ƽ��ors from 2014 to 2022 and a proud parent of two W&M alumni.
	Khalil Russell '21 Davis, CA Khalil Russell earned his B.A. in Biology from �鶹�ƽ�� in 2021 before pursuing a Ph.D. in Population Biology at UC Davis. He has also served on the Annual Giving Board and the Students for University Advancement.
	Connie Swiner '81 Connie Swiner graduated early in 1980 with a B.S. in Biology at �鶹�ƽ�� and then earned his M.D. at Howard University. He was an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology the University of Illinois in Chicago before moving to work for the Cook County Health system eventually retiring as Associate Chairman of Anesthesiology at Provident Hospital of Cook County. During his time at �鶹�ƽ�� he served as the President of Alpha Phi Alpha and Ebony Expressions, was a member of the Biology Club, the Black Students Organization, the Affirmative Action Committee, and served as an orientation aide. Connie has remained involved with his alma mater, having served on the W&M Libraries Board and active with Alpha Phi Alpha.
	Diane Thompson '77, J.D. '81, P '20 Chesapeake, VA Diane Thompson obtained a B.S. in Mathematics from �鶹�ƽ��, J.D. from �鶹�ƽ�� Law School, and LLM in Taxation from New York University. She taught as an adjunct in �鶹�ƽ�� Law School from and is a proud �鶹�ƽ�� parent of an alumnus. Diane is an attorney with Pender & Coward.
	Susan Trice '68 Arlington, VA Susan Trice received her A.B. in English in 1968 from �鶹�ƽ��. She was a representative for Arts & Sciences during the For the Bold campaign and served as a co-chair for her 50^th class reunion.
	Lisa Trivits '97 Bethesda, MD Lisa Trivits obtained her B.S. in Psychology from �鶹�ƽ�� in 1997, and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Virginia. She has worked for 20 years as a research analyst on policy issues affecting children and youth.
	Olympia Trumbower '08 Bellevue, WA Olympia Trumbower holds a BA in Public Policy from W&M and an MPA from the University of Washington. She previously served on the W&M Annual Giving Board of Directors and she is a Charter member of the Society of 1918. Olympia’s leadership advisory and strategic partnerships expertise spans the philanthropic, health, and tech sectors. She is currently the Executive Briefing Lead at UiPath, an Agentic Process Automation company.
	Goody Tyler '11 (Honorary) Goody Tyler graduated from Old Dominion University with a B.S.N. and later a M.S.N. in Nurse Anesthesia. He formerly served as a nurse in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves, serving a 90 day tour at a Forward Operating Base hospital in Afghanistan. He also worked as a nurse anesthetist in Greenville, NC, and the Bon Secours Hospital System in Norfolk. Goody previously served on the Campaign Cabinet and the Campaign Steering Committee of the For the Bold Campaign, and most recently as a member of the W&M Libraries Board of Directors. His late wife, Elizabeth “Bee” McLeod, was an alumna of �鶹�ƽ��.
	Sarah Vicente '05 Sarah Vicente earned her B.S. in Chemistry from �鶹�ƽ��, where she was actively involved in Residence Life and philanthropy efforts, including Up 'til Dawn. She went on to earn her MAT from Johns Hopkins University, an MPH from George Washington University and has worked in public, private, and non-profit positions focused on health and education. She currently serves as Director of Operations and Strategic Initiatives at UC San Diego’s Center for Community Health where her focus is building partnerships to advance health equity.
	David Wagner '96 Bethesda, MD David Wagner earned his B.A. in Economics from William and Mary in 1996 and his M.B.A from the University of Virginia, Darden School of Business in 2000. David has worked as an Investment Analyst and later a Portfolio Manager focused on small cap equities.
